The Cisco Unified Personal Communication design started in the summer of 2005 with a user centered design process. We analyzed the communication environment, designed the product, and evaluated the design via usability testing.
The product unifies various forms of electronic communications –email, instant messaging, phone, video, and conferencing –into a single application. In combination with a Contact's dynamic presences information, the application makes it easier for the user to select an appropriate channel of communication for a successful conversation.
As design lead, I communicated with engineering, marketing, and product management on regular basis to ensure the user's needs were met through sketching, email, and specification documents. I managed designers and consultants for the various aspects of the product –visual design, icon design, and interaction design.
